A Black and White wedding

This cake was 4 tiers of different flavors. Vanilla Bean Cake w/ Dark Chocolate mousse, Red Velvet Cake w/Vanilla Bean Mousse, Lemon Cake w/ Raspberry Mousse and Dark Chocolate Cake w/ Salted Caramel-Cashew filling. YUM! The cake was covered in alternating black and white fondant. The flowers were done with royal icing using a technique called brush embroidery. The pearls were all hand rolled out of fondant and coated in pearl dust. The setting for this wedding was amazing. It was at someones home in Snohomish with a lot of property. The centerpieces were stacks of old books with black candleobras and white candles. They also had lighted lamp posts around the tent and dancefloor. No detail was left untouched, even the outdoor bathroom facilities had black feathers on the handles. The bride and groom drove up to the cermony in a 1920's vehicle. Once I saw all their decor, I knew why the bride picked this design for her cake, it fit perfectly!

Randys Birthday

A last minute order of triple chocolate cake w/ Baileys Irish Cream mousse. The cake has been iced in buttercream and the fish is made of chocolate.

A quick cake made for a potluck at work, I dont recall the flavor. It was iced in whipped cream with a chocolate happy face and fondant flowers.

Another cake from early on...this was made over 2 years ago. Cake was chocolate with hazelnut mousse and covered in chocolate whipped cream frosting and chocolate shavings. The HMFIC stands for "Head MF in Charge".

I made this cake for my sister-in-laws 19th bday. Cake was iced in whipped cream frosting with chocolate snow flakes and covered in sanding sugar for a little sparkle. Her bday is just before xmas.

Kristi's Wedding

My friend Kristi was married last year with a small ceremony in Leavenworth, WA and I had the opportunity to make her wedding cake. The cake was 2 tiers of marble cake w/ chocolate bavarian cream filling. The cake was lightly iced in buttercream and covered in white chocolate ganache and then adorned with "wood panels" of white chocolate. The wedding location finished the cake with fresh and silk flowers. When the cake was cut everyone got a piece of the "fence" as the kids were calling it.

My first attempt at making bacon from a sugar product. This was ordered for a friends husband who LOVES bacon. The cake itself was dark chocolate with peanut butter cheesecake mousse. The other bacon on the cake was made of fondant.

More updates of cakes past

The three above cakes were made for my moms co-worker Justin. The basketball cake she ordered for his birthday, he played for a semi pro team in Seattle and he was #22. The cake is only 5" and the basketball on top is also cake. Bottom cake was iced in whipped cream and the BB was covered in fondant.
The strawberry cake was just for fun with an extra cake I had, it was white cake w/ strawberry mousse and white chocolate panels. Topped with fresh strawberries and chocolate drizzle.
The grass cake was another extra cake. chocolate cake w/ cherry filling iced in buttercream and topped with the grass tip and fondant flowers.

Both of these cakes were ordered for a co-workers daughters high school graduation. The small cake is vegan...it was my first. It was iced in a non diary buttercream. The larger cake was not vegan...chocolate cake w/ chocolate ganache and iced in buttercream. The Mercer Island HS logo was done in chocolate and the girls names in fondant. I learned with these cakes that red darkens and it sits. My burgandy turned a bit brown, thank goodness for understanding friends.

This was made for a co-workers 50th birthday, his wife called and ordered it as a suprise. The "Miss Budweiser" plaque was originally a pin that I recreated in chocolate. Cake was chocolate with chocolate ganache...yum!

Chocolate cake w/chocolate mousse and iced in buttercrea,. The crowd, Hannah Montana and the band are edible images. The "stage" is chocolate. This was a difficult cake as it was a hot summer and sugar and chocolate like to melt in that kind of heat. The birthday girl loved it.

Dylans 3rd Bday

My friend Sarah and I make cakes for her boy's birthdays every year. We make them together, usually her idea and my knowledge. This year since Dylan was turning 3 we decided to do a cake in the shape of the number 3. This was carved from a 1/4 sheet cake, vanilla cake w/ chocolate bavarian cream filling. The cake has been iced in buttercream and topped with fondant shapes and pictures of Dylan from the past 3 years of life, some of the pictures include a monster truck show, the day he was stung by a bee and seafair.

Cupcakes and Truffles

I had the great opportunity to make cupcakes and truffles for a friends birthday/housewarming party. Her daughter-in-law called and ordered them as a suprise. The cupcakes were Triple Chocolate w/ English Toffee Mousse and Vanilla Bean w/ Tangerine Mousse. The truffles were all dark chocolate (Raspberry, Mint and Hazelnut). The colors were ordered to match her house. I love the BRIGHT colors, super fun.

Cakes just for fun

This coffee mug was made over 2 years ago so I dont recall the flavors, but it was a 6" round that I carved and covered in fondant. The top "foam" is whipped cream frosting and chocolate sprinkles.
Not my best cake ever, but I did make this in the spring of 2007 (yes, 2 years ago), I was playing around with flavors and I asked Derek, who is now my husband, what flavor to make. He suggested peanut butter and chocolate, a classic combination. So this cake is a chocolate cake with a peanut butter cheesecake mousse. The filling has become so popular it is regularly requested. I also had just fnished my first Wilton course with the buttecream roses, so I was trying to practice those as well as my writing, hence the Happy birthday.

I made this for my mom as a just because. I was playing around with square cakes and my new daisy cutters.

Iced in butter cream with blue piping gel for water and chocolate flow boats. I made this for some co-workers to share, it was a chocolate cake with cherry filling.

More cakes at random

My friend Nicole and I made this together for her annual pumpkin carving party in 2007. The bottom tier was chocolate cake with Peanut Butter Cheesecake Mousse and the top tier was white cake with Pumpkin Spice mousse. The cake was iced in whipped cream with fondant details (pumpkins, bones, bats, cat, hat, RIP, ghost, tree, bird). The border is whipped cream with our favorite tip, the grass tip. The spider and web are black buttercream.
Yet another german chocolate cake for my father in law. This was for fathers day 2008, the cake was iced in whipped cream and topped with blue piping gel for water. The fish was 1lb of chocolate with chocolate rocks for detail. He enjoyed the cake and my SIL Shana enjoyed the fish.

I was contacted by a local organization that helps with relief for families who have lost someone in the war. They were holding a fundraiser and needed a few cakes. The cake with the eagle is an edible image of a painting the gentleman who contacted me had made. The cake was a carrot cake iced in buttercream with a buttercream border. The second cake was donated, chocolate cake w/ raspberry mousse filling, iced in buttercream with fondant details.

This was made for a girls night gathering at a friends house in the fall of 2007. It was a chocolate cake with caramel filling and iced in chocolate whipped cream frosting. The leaves, pumpkins acorns, etc are made from chocolate clay (think of a tootsie roll but yummier!)

These were made in a class designed especially for cupcakes. My favorite is the "Latte" in the mini Starbucks cup, it has a mini chocolate cupcake in the bottom of the cup, topped with espresso ganache, whipped cream frosting and a chocolate drizzle. These were given to my nephew Austin to share with his basketball team after their game.

A last minute cake for a friends birthday. A couple of her favorite colors are red and black, so the combination seemed perfect for a classic birthday cake. This was my first attempt at a fondant bow. I was very pleased with the way it turned out. Unfortunately, I wasnt thinking about the rain and it made some spots on the fondant but I dont think anyone by myself noticed :-)

This was a ordered from a friend of mine who was giving it to the mom to be as her gift. It was my first baby shower cake (and maybe my only now that I think of it). It was also a first with chocolate blocks and modeling things from fondant. The cake is iced in buttercream with fondant details (bears, stars, sports balls).
