Cakes just for fun

This coffee mug was made over 2 years ago so I dont recall the flavors, but it was a 6" round that I carved and covered in fondant. The top "foam" is whipped cream frosting and chocolate sprinkles.
Not my best cake ever, but I did make this in the spring of 2007 (yes, 2 years ago), I was playing around with flavors and I asked Derek, who is now my husband, what flavor to make. He suggested peanut butter and chocolate, a classic combination. So this cake is a chocolate cake with a peanut butter cheesecake mousse. The filling has become so popular it is regularly requested. I also had just fnished my first Wilton course with the buttecream roses, so I was trying to practice those as well as my writing, hence the Happy birthday.

I made this for my mom as a just because. I was playing around with square cakes and my new daisy cutters.

Iced in butter cream with blue piping gel for water and chocolate flow boats. I made this for some co-workers to share, it was a chocolate cake with cherry filling.

More cakes at random

My friend Nicole and I made this together for her annual pumpkin carving party in 2007. The bottom tier was chocolate cake with Peanut Butter Cheesecake Mousse and the top tier was white cake with Pumpkin Spice mousse. The cake was iced in whipped cream with fondant details (pumpkins, bones, bats, cat, hat, RIP, ghost, tree, bird). The border is whipped cream with our favorite tip, the grass tip. The spider and web are black buttercream.
Yet another german chocolate cake for my father in law. This was for fathers day 2008, the cake was iced in whipped cream and topped with blue piping gel for water. The fish was 1lb of chocolate with chocolate rocks for detail. He enjoyed the cake and my SIL Shana enjoyed the fish.

I was contacted by a local organization that helps with relief for families who have lost someone in the war. They were holding a fundraiser and needed a few cakes. The cake with the eagle is an edible image of a painting the gentleman who contacted me had made. The cake was a carrot cake iced in buttercream with a buttercream border. The second cake was donated, chocolate cake w/ raspberry mousse filling, iced in buttercream with fondant details.

This was made for a girls night gathering at a friends house in the fall of 2007. It was a chocolate cake with caramel filling and iced in chocolate whipped cream frosting. The leaves, pumpkins acorns, etc are made from chocolate clay (think of a tootsie roll but yummier!)

These were made in a class designed especially for cupcakes. My favorite is the "Latte" in the mini Starbucks cup, it has a mini chocolate cupcake in the bottom of the cup, topped with espresso ganache, whipped cream frosting and a chocolate drizzle. These were given to my nephew Austin to share with his basketball team after their game.

A last minute cake for a friends birthday. A couple of her favorite colors are red and black, so the combination seemed perfect for a classic birthday cake. This was my first attempt at a fondant bow. I was very pleased with the way it turned out. Unfortunately, I wasnt thinking about the rain and it made some spots on the fondant but I dont think anyone by myself noticed :-)

This was a ordered from a friend of mine who was giving it to the mom to be as her gift. It was my first baby shower cake (and maybe my only now that I think of it). It was also a first with chocolate blocks and modeling things from fondant. The cake is iced in buttercream with fondant details (bears, stars, sports balls).

Logans Rock Star Bday - 5years old

A pink and purple bass guitar. Cake was a creamsiscle (orange cake w/ vanilla mousse). Covered in fondant and accented with lots of pearl dust for sparkle. I have known the birthday girl since she was born, I got to hold her when she came home from the hospital. This was my first chance to make her a birthday cake and her reaction was worth the wait!

Nicholas Lodge Gumpaste Class

I had the opportunity to take a gumpaste flower class from world renowned Nicholas Lodge. The class was amazing! We made orchids, calla lillies, stephenotis and roses. He also showed us how to make leaves, ribbon loops and details with wire and floral tape. This is an experience I will treasure for years to come.

Painters Palette

This was a pink champagne cake with raspberry mousse. Made for a co-worker celebrating 20 years with our company. She is an amazing artist in her spare time.

Cake Tastings...

This was my first "Open House" to share my cakes and chocoaltes with friends and family. I had the open house in my home. I featured 3 types of cakes for display, a wedding cake, a birthday cake and a baby shower cake. I had 4 flavors of cake and filling combinations (Vanilla Bean w/ Hazelnut Mousse, Chocolate Cake w/ Peanut Butter Mousse, Red Velvet Cake w/ Vanilla Bean Mousse and White Cake w/Lemon filling), there were buttercream and whipped cream frosting to try as well. I also had a mini version of a chocolate bar/display with chocolate dipped strawberries, caramel covered choc dipped pretzels, truffles in a variety of flavors, fruit and nut bark and chocolate cups with peanut butter cheese cake mousse and raspberry mousse. The open house was a huge hit. (April 2008)

I did a cake tasting at a local networking/meet and greet party last fall. I made truffles in fall flavors (caramel apple, pumpkin pie, cranberry, hazelnut), fruit and nut bark, vanilla bean cupcakes w/ hazelnut mousse and dark chocolate cupcakes with Baileys ganache. I also showed a sample of holiday chocolate items for order.

My First Gumpaste Flowers

This cake was a lot of firsts for me. First gumpaste flowers...first topsy turvey, first paid wedding cake. It was a great cake to make. It was all chocolate with raspberry filling. All tiers are covered in fondant with fondant details and gumpaste lillies. People thought they were real! What a great compliment.

Bronwen Webers Class

I had the great experience of taking a class by Bronwen Weber last year. It was a 3 day course of sculpting and airbrushing. We made a fish, a bulldog and a parrot. The parrot on its stand stood almost 2 feet tall.

More Cakes

Nicole and I made this cake this cake for the womens shelter about 2 years ago. Our cake club donates a cake every month for the shelter to celebrate birthdays.
This was one of the first cakes I ever made. It was a joint effort with Nicole and Melina. I got to do the airbrushing and the flower placing.

I entered this cake in the 2008 Evergreen state fair. It was my first time entering a cake. It is a two tiered square with green and pink hydrangeas and brown ribbon detail. I got a blue ribbon!
