Happy Birthday Sandy!

I had the pleasure of making a cake for a co-workers wife's 50th suprise party. The bottom tier is a dark chocolate cake with chocolate hazelnut mousse. The top tier is a vanilla cake with raspberry mousse. The cake is iced in american buttercream with fondant details. The cake was a huge hit...the birthday girl was very suprised!

My moms 60th Birthday

This was for my moms birthday a couple weeks ago. She requested Dark Chocolate cake with salted caramel and cashew filling. The "C" with the crystals on top she picked out about a year ago and told me..."I want this for my birthday cake!". It is perfect for her as everything she owns sparkles in some way or another. The cake was iced in buttercream and airbrushed. The fondant stripes and bow was painted with a vodka and sparkle dust combo. The pearls in the center of each flower were also covered in sparkles. It was a great addition to the party we had with our closest friends and family.

Halloween Cake

I used a cake from cakecentral as inspiration for this cake. The cake was pumpkin spice with a cinnamon cream cheese filling. The cake was iced in buttercream and the spider was made of chocolate fondant. I learned with this cake that I should have made the spider in advance so the legs would stand up better. I was in a hurry to have this for the Halloween potluck at work and whipped the cake out the night before. Our potlucks are always a good excuse for me to try a cake idea I have been saving.

Wedding Cakes

I love making wedding cakes...they can be a important and meaningful centerpiece to a persons wedding day.

My friend Mandie got married on 07/07/2007 and she had picked out this beautiful cake from Martha Stewart Weddings. It was perfect to match the tropical theme of her wedding. Until her wedding I had never made a cake, but my mom thought I could make it as her wedding gift. I started to practice and I took classes and like most people, started cake decorating because I thought making a wedding cake sounded like fun and I wanted to help out my friend. To keep with the tropical theme each tier had white cake and a different filling...lemon, pineapple and my favorite mango mousse. The cake was covered in fondant and stamped with a wave impression. The edges of the cake were detailed with bamboo made of fondant. My husband even made a special stand out of granite to display my creation. The cake was a huge hit and I felt so special to be able to be part of her wedding day!One year later and many cakes later I made Mandie and Vetala an anniversary cake. I used the same color fondant to make a bow and the wave impression in the bow pieces. I made pieces of bamboo to wrap around the cake to tie into their wedding cake.

It looks like a pumpkin and tastes like pumpkin pie

I had the opportunity to donate a cake to an auction event this year that supports purrfect pals. With it being my favorite time of year, I used it as an excuse to try a cake idea I had seen. I made this pumpkin cake with 2 bundt pans put together to shape the cake. The cake itself was a pumpkin spice cake with a cinnamon cream cheese filling. The stem is an ice cream cone dipped in chocolate, the leaves are chocolate and the "straw" is buttercream.

I Love Fall!!!

Dark chocolate cake with a salted caramel cashew filling...and if that isnt rich enough, it has been iced with chocolate whipped cream and decorated with flowers, leaves and acorns made of chocolate clay (Thank you Dawn and Sarah for the flower and acorn donations). This was made at the request of my company for our annual inventory. It was a little excessive for the amount of people we needed to feed, but I appreciate Darlene for feeding my creativity.

I made these cupcakes for my sister-in-law Jess's Party Lite party. It was a good excuse to use my leaf cutters I bought last year and to test out a new buttercream. Cupcakes were chocolate cake with Baileys ganache and vanilla cake with a chocolate mousse.

And these lovely gems are the leftovers of mini cupcakes I made for a cake tasting. My husband and his co-workers seem to reap the benefits of any excess batter around my kitchen. Vanilla Bean cake with Hazelnut Mousse filling, Chocolate whipped cream frosting and fall leaf sprinkles. Yum!!!

Childrens Cakes

So I have gone through the past few months doing a lot of cakes for kids. I especially love doing children's cakes and then getting to see or hear their reactions. There is just nothing like it! Adults always love how beautiful they are, but kids express their gratitude in a much different light.
The Ariel cake was made for a co-workers niece...chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. Ariel and friends are chocolate flow and the other accents are fondant. All in all, this was a really fun cake to make!

This cake was made for a little girl names Aliyah! She requested a cake with Hello Kitty on it and suprise, suprise the face is made of chocolate! The cake was a white cake with raspberry mousse filling. The accents were made of fondant. I was able to deliver this right to the birthday girl, her smile when she saw the cake made my day!

This cake order was hillarious. My co-workers wife filled out the order form and under description "I want Barbie riding a horse!" was written. I just cracked up. Amber is a little girl who knows EXACTLY what she wants. The cake was chocolate with a raspberry filling. Barbie and her horse is an edible image that has been backed with chocolate for support. Trees, rocks and mountain is more chocolate. The "5" is fondant. Another cake I was able to deliver directly to the birthday girl. Andrew and Rebecca had their whole house decked out in horse and barbie decor, the cake was a prefect match. When Amber comes to the office with her dad now I am known as the lady who made her birthday cake.

I am always being asked...do you have pictures of your cakes online I can see? Well...on myspace of course! And who doesnt have a myspace these days? But I do like to keep my cakes seperate from my personal pictures, so I thought what a great I idea to start posting here for people to see and ask questions etc.
